Covering about 552 square kilometers, it is one of the more underrated parks in Tanzania but offers stunning landscapes and varied wildlife. The park is known for Mount Meru, the second-highest mountain in Tanzania after Mount Kilimanjaro, and offers incredible views of both mountains. Arusha National Park’s diverse habitats include montane rainforests, open savannahs, crater lakes, and swamps, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or shorter safari.

Key Features:

• Mount Meru: Standing at 4,566 meters, Mount Meru dominates the park’s landscape and offers one of the most scenic hikes in Tanzania. The mountain is a popular trekking destination for adventurers, often used as a warm-up for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
• Momella Lakes: A series of seven shallow, alkaline lakes that attract a wide variety of birdlife, including flamingos.

• Arusha National Park is located just 40 minutes from Arusha town and about 60 km from Kilimanjaro International Airport. This makes it one of the most accessible parks for those arriving in Tanzania for a northern safari.

While Arusha National Park may not have the large concentrations of wildlife seen in Serengeti or Ngorongoro, its varied landscapes, abundant birdlife, and proximity to Mount Meru make it a unique and rewarding destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
